Cullity was a graduate of the University of Western Australia, and a Rhodes Scholar (1958). Following his time at Melbourne Law School, he was appointed Professor, Osgoode Hall Law School 1968-1984, practiced as a barrister in Ontario (appointed QC). 1997−1999 Ontario Court of Justice (General Division)

1999−2010 Superior Court of Justice
After Cullity left the court he returned to private practice writing opinions on estates matters until his eventual retirement at the end of 2014.
